Japan help establish first Za’atari Waste Water Treatment Plant

Amman(womeninjordan)–With the support of Ministry of Water and Irrigation, the first Waste Water Treatment Plant in Za’atari Camp was constructed,according to a press release issued by Japanese embassy.
The opening ceremony took place recently in Za’atari Camp under the patronage of Dr. Hazem Al Nasserthe Minister of Water and Irrigation and in presence ofthe Ambassador of Japan to Jordan H.E Mr. Shuichi Sakurai and representatives from donor countries and organizations.
The Government of Japan has contributedaround USD 700 thousand in the construction of Za’atari Waste Water Treatment Plant which was conducted by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
The Za’atari Waste Water Treatment Plant will improve Syrian refugees living conditions and reducewaste water negative effect on environment by ensuring the adequate treatment of Za’atari’swaste water.
The Government of Japan extended approximately 180 million US dollars worthof bilateral support to Jordan, and about 19 million US dollars to UN and international organizations in Jordan for the projects regarding the Syrian crisis during 2014.
