Launching Policy Paper „From Energy Mess to Energy Management: Jordan as a Case Study (2007- 2020)“

Amman(womeninjordan)—The German Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in Amman launched the Policy Paper
„From Energy Mess to Energy Management: Jordan as a Case Study (2007-2020) “by Dr. Ayoub
Abu-Dayyeh.
Jordan can be considered as a frontrunner in the MENA region having voted as First County in
the MENA region a national Energy and Energy Efficiency Strategy in 2007. According to this
strategy the share of renewable energy shall reach 7% by 2015.
In times of high energy dependence, energy policy is at the core of the political debate in Jordan.
As Prime Minister Abdallah Ensour stated in January, Energy is a top priority of the government
and remains the Kingdom’s top priority.
Beginning of the year 2015, the aims and objectives and initially proclaimed goals should be
assessed in order to analyze existing gaps between the Energy 2007 strategy and the current
energy situation in Jordan.
The policy paper gives an analysis of the current energy situation in Jordan and shows
perspectives for a transformation towards renewable energies.
